A good flower to use for an early Autumn wedding?

I've fallen in love with the Orange Flame Calla Lily, but I'm not sure if I can get them locally, or inexpensively. I also expect around 100 guests - how many flowers should I order, and how much should I budget for them? I have heard that flowers could be your most costly expense.

Talk to your local florists about what's in season and what's easy to get from wholesalers that time of year. Spring flowers, for instance, would have to be shipped in (and probably special ordered), so would be pretty steep. You'd probably have better access to "unusual" flowers in a larger city with a wholesale market than in a rural state.





If you like orange, some of the asiatic lilies should be fairly easy to come by, as are chrysanthemum, dahlia, gerbera daisy, roses, sunflowers, Alstroemeria, . You might hear some surprised talk from older attendees of your wedding if you use calla lilies, as they were once nearly exclusively a casket flower, albeit white callas were commonly used.

The only flower I know that would be in season would be the mum. Mums are no longer those little round buttons that are called flowers.


Some beautiful and exquisite flowers are Spider mums and a very dainty one is the daisy mum and they come in a plethora of colors. Even chartreuse.


But when you have your heart set on the Calla Lilly a mum just wont do.


I say save your pennies and splurge you only live once.

Reply:They may not be available - check around. I know they bloom in summer. Try Ranunculas and Gerber daiseys, they are usually available all year - the come in nice rich colors too. Roses never fail.


and don't be affraid to use alot of greenery to create drama with simple flowers. Bear grass tangled into a simple arrangement of roses is very cool. Burgundy - deep purples - orange and yellows are all nice.


Pop the head off a gerber and sink it into a cylinder hurricane with water top it with a floating candle - twist some bear grass in with it add a 2 other height cylinders with water and floating candles. If you put ten guests per table - you can budget approx $20 for each centerpiece.


$6-10 per boutinneer and $150 for your bouquett - and $50 for each brides maid. The mothers corsages - $20 ea.
