Has anyone ordered silk flowers from save-on-crafts.com?

I have a bridal book that recommends this site and the flowers look nice (I'm looking for silk flowers that have a realistic look to them...if I do decide to go with silk flowers - still undecided). Can anyone tell me what the quality of their bouquets is like?

Has anyone ordered silk flowers from save-on-crafts.com?
No, but I hear A.C. Mooe have some grate ones
Reply:Never heard to them... but Hobby Lobby is the GREATEST. My best friend used their silk calla lillies and they were amazing. I still have my bouquet and almost a year later all my quests smell them. Everyone thinks they are real.

Good luck and best wishes.
Reply:I'm not familiar with this site's products but have you checked at Hobby Lobby? I've done all my own florals for my upcoming wedding and purchased most of mine from there. They really have some beautiful ones to choose from.

Good luck in your search! Happy Wedding!

I like flower shops just fine. All I ask, besides a fresh and varied selection, are helpful and knowledgeable staff. Nothing is more irritating than teenage counter staff chatting with each other and ignoring the customers.

Has Anyone Ever Purchased Flowers Using Lane Bryant Companies Credit Cards?

Every time I've used their service (which is really Telaflora) they mess up the order. I ordered flowers for my sister for two days before Christmas, and it took them 1 1/2 days to deliver them, even though I called in the morning to order. Then they were crummy looking. When I called to complain, they gave me the standard "We'll take your complaint and see what can be done" which I've always found to be is nothing, the girl told me that florists pay T.F. to be first in line for referrals. The florist they sent my order to was 14 miles from my sisters house, where as she has two florists who deal in T.F. in her town! Today was the last straw. I called in some flowers for my daughter's birthday and the florist called me to say they didn't have that arrangement, and then confided in me that the 60.00 I paid to T.F. is only paying for a 34.00 arrangement! But, on the T.F. web page, they showed I purchased one for 45.00. RIP OFF. I'm not using them again, and am telling Lane Brynt

What color should my bridesmaid dresses be, in order to match my dress and flowers?...pics included!?

My bridesmaid's and I are trying to figure out what color/stye their dresses should be. We're all at a complete loss so any advice would be great! (especially if you can provide links! :) )

As of right now the only two colors I'm working with are white and a pale blue (the color of the hydrangeas in my bouquet below)

We would prefer not to have them wear light blue dresses, so what other color would also look good? and of course...what style do you think is best?

Below are the links to my dress, my bouquet, and my venue, and the church, just to give you an idea of the feel of my wedding.

(it should be noted that the reception will probably be mostly white, with some light blue and potentially silver accents....very clean and crisp....so the bridesmaid's dresses won't neccessarily have to match or be incorporated into the venue)

oh and this is an April 2009 wedding!

Thanks so much for all your help! I look forward to your answers!

I would think that a nice pale yellow or a pale green color would look beautiful in that room.

Maybe something along the lines of these colors...

Reply:Liked the suggestion of a pale green. What about pale yellow? If your bouquet has a pinkish rose in it, what about pale pink? Just be sure to have lots of contrast between dress color and flowers so they'll show nicely in pics.
Reply:Periwinkle or lavender would be nice, even a dusty rose or the right shade of green...

Reply:I have gone for a blue and white wedding, my dress has a very pale blue in it so for my bridesaids instead of going for the same blue, their dreses are royal blue. Its goes with alll the flowers as we are having blue hyasithms and hydrangeas.

Hope you have a lovely day, and good luck
Reply:I would go with periwinkle or any spring colors. I would also add more color to bouquet, it is dull looking.
Reply:Your wedding is going to be beautiful. I was thinking that dresses in the color of champagne would be beautiful. These can be accessorized with beautiful flowers in their hair that could be a blue to match your bouquet. Congralutations. Just remember that's it's not the wedding that matters, but the marriage.
Reply:I also think a silver would be nice. It would accent everything perfectly.
Reply:I love his show and love these dresses. It's real housewives of orange county. no idea where they got the dresses, but it is Lauri's wedding episode 3-11 (season 3 episode 11). and that green is the prettiest colour. I saw your bouquet, and i think this green dress would really pop with bouquets like that.

My girls dresses are truffle (chocolate brown) and it has been a great color to work with.

I love this dress in truffle (you'll have to click on the truffle color box!)...it sort of matches your gown style...

You could have a pale blue and chocolate brown color scheme....but again, I'm so drawn to the browns!

Have fun deciding and best wishes to you!!
Reply:I think that a medium blue color would be really nice, I'm not into silver so much and I think that turquoise or teal would clash witht hte hydrangeas as would a really ice blue, April is gorgeous in San Diego so I think I would do teal length dresses, maybe somethinf either lacy or filmy to go with your dress and the reception site.

Does anybody know how to put together a nice flower arrangement for a wedding?

We ordered flowers from a wholesaler because it way so much cheaper. I don't have any experience with this so please help me!

Does anybody know how to put together a nice flower arrangement for a wedding?
Dont know if you are doing bouquets or table arrangements. If they are bouquets get bouquet holders from Michaels or Walmart..put greenery around the back first, then main flowers..roses or carns, then fill in with babies breath. For table arrangements put oasis (water holding foam type )in container, again put greens in first, then major flowers in a wagon wheel type pattern, then fill in with babies breath or greens or something small
Reply:I put flowers together for two weddings. It depends on what you are looking for. I am not a crafty person but one wedding I was in and I was just trying to get the bride not to have a breakdown. The other was my best friend's wedding and I helped her sister in law (who was a florist). But I did put together the bouquet.

First wedding...unopened roses. white and red. We put five white roses in the middle and surrounded it with red roses...we used wire and wound each one together. Then we used wide white and red ribbon to cover the outside wire and curled it with the scissor. We tied to together the white roses first and then the read onto the outside until we had three rings around. That is a very classy look.

Second wedding. Bride ordered flowers...florist went out of business two days before wedding and would not do wedding (actually I think they went bankrupt). Did give us whatever in stock that we wanted. We filled up two buckets of flowers. We had carnations, baby's breath, roses, etc. Her bridesmaids dresses were dark pink for the maid of honor and light pink for everyone else. We actually went to the dress store and asked them for extra fabric from the dresses (I had to order a size 16 for my chest but my skirt size is 8) we had a lot of fabric from my skirt (plus they took off three four inches from the bottom). Friend's Mom sewed little flower pouches and glued white lace on the outside edges and everything was beatiful. I wish I had pictures.

You can do anything as long as it goes with the event. If it is early day casual, you might want to have litte baskets or just hand tied ribbons on flowers. If it is formal, you want it to be more uniform and tighter. Just look in the bridal magazines and see what you like.

Reply:Well it depends on the color of the wedding and maybe you should go with the color of the brides mades dresses and throe in some lighter colors of the origional color.Or you could maybe go to a person who plants flowers and create gardenings and ask them whatwould go right.

I was wondering if anyone ordered from before?

Has anyone ordered flowers from bigrose.com?
Sweetie, that sounds like a lot of money to make your own flowers. I would say you would have less stress building all of those flower bouquets and centerpieces if you were to buy the flowers wholesale and then have a florist make them for you.

Wedding flowers?

Does anyone know of a good place to order flowers for a wedding? I am looking for a reasonable price. I may just order them and have someone arrange them on site. Any good wholesalers?

Wedding flowers?
Grocery stores and Produce centers sell wholesale flowers in bulk. I'd go local if you can. Some one local is going to bust their hump to make it right. Some of these online places you can be sh*touttaluck. Especially with the heat and shipping plus storage.
Reply:Hi ,

Use Salehoo, you will find many wholesalers there for flowers , http://www.salehoowholesalers.com , its a really big wholesalers list, here is also there search page http://search.salehoowholesalers.com

Hope this helps
Reply:I am doing Gerbera daisies and have actually considered ordering them through samsclub.com because they are so cheap.
Reply:You can try FlowerBuyer.com to purchase your flowers, however, as far as I know, they cater to retail and wholesale florists, therfore you may need a Fed tax ID. either way, being far from a major airport will add quite some expense, even to the most inexpensive of blooms. this is because as a perishable item, most reputable growers will ONLY ship Fedex, overnight, to ensure the product arrives fresh This alone can add 30-50% to the cost. You may try contacting the California flower Growers Assn. or maybe even the Texas assn...In short, It ain't gonna be easy, and in the end, Costco may be your best option..Good Luck
Reply:the daughter in law of a woman i work with actually ordered hers through either shoprite or stop and shop flower dept. I am not sure if she had to arrange them or not but she said it was a lot cheaper
Reply:You haven't said what city you live in!

Try a google search for wholesale florists in your city, try the yellow pages. I don't think your local florist will tell you the name of his wholesaler.

Also, you could make a trip to your local "central market". Most large cities have one. Ask around and find out which day the flowers arrive then follow up.

My niece did this, she went there at 5:30 in the morning and there were all the wholesalers showing off their beautiful flowers and the florists walked around and then placed their orders.
Reply:Call your local flower shops.
Reply:Your local flower shop should either 1. be able to give you a good price on buying bulk flowers, or 2. be able to give you somewhere that buys and sells wholesale. Go around to several flower shops and ask around.

Doing my own wedding flowers any ideas?

I am getting married in September and want to save money by doing my own flowers. Do you know of any good web sites or stores to order bulk flowers from? Any ideas or tips on how to arrange flowers and which ones are the most hardy? My colors are white and blue with a few pink accents.

Doing my own wedding flowers any ideas?
You can try places like Costco or Sam's Club. I have heard some good things about flowers from there.

Are you planning on doing just the bouquets or are you centerpieces floral as well? If you are going to do just the bouquets I would say your best option would be to go to Safeway (or if you have it in your area a wholesale flowermart). You can pick up a nice bouquet for a fairly good price. Michaels has a lot of supplies for putting the bouquet together...I believe they also offer classes. Just make sure that you do a few practice bouquets. The last thing that you want is to be struggling the morning of the wedding. Sometimes creating what you want can be more difficult then you think...I know I've learned my lesson about that.
Reply:I did my own flowers and they turned out great. I would highly recommend www.theflowerexchange.com to buy your flowers. Mine arrived on time, in great condition, and they lasted over 2 weeks. I was so pleased with the flowers that I ordered a bunch more for Thanksgiving. Again, I was very impressed. As for tips, I used this website (http://www.theknot.com/co_profileview.ht... which gave great tips.

Congrats and good luck!
Reply:I would ask your local florist if they can sell to you wholesale. They will have the freshest flowers and get them on time. Aslo here is a site I like to use for decorating my events. www.BeeBows.Net Hope this has helped. Good Luck!
Reply:My sister in law helped me out with the flowers. We got our fake at like Target. They turned out to be really nice.
Reply:I dont know if your florist could do this, but it is worth asking. I got married last march and the florist told me that to do a flower arrangement would be 60 dollars but if I went and bought my own flower they would only charge me 10 dollars. But I also had fake flowers Craft stores have lots of different flower to choose from too, good luck
Reply:i do not know if you have considered silk flowers, which are waaaay cheaper than real ones, but here is the site i brought mine from and i am getting married may 18th of 2008 and everything is planned and done for under 10k. good luck. www.csilkc.com they have pictures of previos real brides with their own unique creations. hope this helps.
Reply:Check out Samsclub.com or Costco.com.

I am doing my own flowers as well, and I am going to get my roses from Sams Club. I checked them out in the store to see their quality and they are really nice.
Reply:WHen I was thinking about doing my own flowers this is where I was going to buy them through but I found Safeway! I know it sounds wierd but grocery stores have florist and they tend to run about the third of the price of a florist shop!!! Every florist in town qouted me like 800- 1000 for my flowers because I wanted lilies. Safeway I am only paying 350! And that is for 3 bouquets, 12 boutineers, 3 mom's corsages and 3 grandmas wristlets! Plus it will save you the stress of doing your own! I helped with my brothers and man was it stress ful!!!

I bought mine and Michaels and put them together myself (well i will). They are silk

I am spending about 60$ for 3 bouquets
Reply:Like someone else mentioned I got mine through a grocery store florist. We used Albertson's. They were really cheap and I didn't have to worry about anything except for making the order and arranging someone to pick them up. As a bonus, roses (I used roses) were on sale the week of my wedding so they were even cheaper than they would have been.

It is a good way to go because I don't think that you could make them much cheaper and it saves you a lot of headache.

Check on Amazon.com. You wouldn't believe the stuff they have now. A man I know just had a case of Hamburger Helper delivered to his younger brother (don't ask).
Reply:look up local caterers in his area, also try to find some bakeries online. If they have a decent website, look it over, give them a call if you have any questions. If they seem to know what theyre talking about and can deliver, I say go for it. It may be slightly difficult to find out whether the food will be good or not, but if theyre an established company, chances are they know what they are doing any your present should be well received!

Reply:I like to shop on eBay for unique things just have them ship it to him. You can e-mail back and forth so you could even get them to wrap it.
Reply:There are bakeries in Arkansas that you could call to place your order, that way the gift isn't going to be shipped, only delivered across town. I'd suggest some kind of coffee cake or strudel, unless he's really big on cheesecake. A strudel has less chance of looking like it has been demolished if the trip goes bad. :)

Ordering flowers online?

we're trying to save money where we can, so my mother is going to do the flowers (she was a florist for a few years)

has anyone had expierience getting their wedding flowers in bulk from a website, how long do they last? should i do it?

Ordering flowers online?
best thing to do is go to Stop and Shop...they have the best flowers if youre gonna do them yourself...i got roses and they lasted me two weeks...changing water everyday
Reply:you may be better off speaking with a local florist (small shop) ask them if they would consider ordering the flowers for you in bulk and take a 10 percent markup from cost.

You would get them fresh and would be assured of high quality.
Reply:Hi. Yes, I ordered roses for my son's wedding from rosesource.com

http://www.rosesource.com/

They sell all kinds of flowers, not just roses, but I did order roses. You can read my testimonial on their site. It's under "Gail B."

I was EXTREMELY nervous ordering, but everything worked out! I don't have to tell you (or your mom) how much work it is, I'm sure your mom knows. Since the wedding was on a Saturday, I had the roses delivered on Thursday, and we did up centerpieces, etc. on Friday. It is a HUGE savings! I ordered 250 roses (which would have cost me well over $1,250 locally, and I only paid (in 2006) $160!!

They held up well and looked beautiful for the reception! Well worth it.

Another reputable one is: www.growersbox.com

I almost went with them until I stumbled upon rosesource and since I wanted roses, I went with them instead (and they were a little cheaper than growersbox.)

Good luck in your decision!

Bulk flowers from sams club or costco?

Has anyone ever ordered flowers online at a wholesale store like costco or sams club? They have great prices, so I thought it would be a good way to cut costs for a wedding, but I dont want to regret it if they are crappy.

Bulk flowers from sams club or costco?
I cannot help with Sams or Costco, but if you are considering order tulips, check out this website. www.growingtulips.com

they were great for me, I ordered 100 stems and put them together myself and had plenty left over for different things. They were shipped here from The Netherlands and were fresh and packed in ice since my wedding was last July, in Texas. Despite the extreme heat they were perfect and very cheap.
Reply:Always order a "sample" from ANY company, to see their quality before making them your florist.

In past experience though sams club usually does a good job with their flowers. Know nothing of costco's floral dept.
Reply:One of my good friends got her wedding flowers from Sam's Club and they were absolutely beautiful. She ordered from the store, though so I'm not sure about online... I wouldn't recommend ordering something as important as your wedding flowers online. There are too many things that could happen. Maybe go to the wholesale store in person and check them out.
Reply:Go to a flower wholesaler...not Costco or Sams. They might have lower prices, but you'll regret it in the end. Flower wholesalers are usually going to be open from 5am-1 or 2pm so get there early. They have the best quality and the prices are really great. You can buy in bulk and they will give you fantastic discounts. It will also give you the opportunity to see what colors are aorund and what will be the cheapest during the season. Try doing a search in yahoo local for flower wholesale in a large city near you. Good luck!
Reply:would you have to set them up yourself or do have someone to take of that for you? perhaps talk to a staff member at your nearest location and get a sample then you can actually put a face to your order its a big important wedding aspect that you need someone to consult with i think
Reply:don't do it........
Reply:THe thing is, they can be hard to work with. You order 1000 roses and you are shipped 1000 roses. You are responsible for soaking them for a day, getting them in vases or however you want them, removing the petals (you remove the outer petals), trimming the stems, and of course, setting them up. Who are you going to trust to do set them up? It will have to be done the day of the wedding and you and your bridal party will be busy with wedding stuff. I looked into it but it was far too much hassle for me and with having to purchase all the extras and spend my time doing it, I don't know that the cost difference would have been that great.

Either way, best of luck in your planning, your wedding and your marriage!
Reply:Only do this if you have someone who knows how to prep fresh flowers. Sams flowers are beautiful you must get them in at least 2 days before the event. It is a lot of work and you need the correct equipment to work with or you could damage the stem and kill the flower. So do some research and count the full cost before you do this.
Reply:They always "look" nice in the store.
Reply:I ordered the roses (hundreds of them) for my daughter's wedding from 2GRoses and, the day before the wedding, several of my friends came over and helped me arrange place card vases with the roses, baby's breath, and fern. The tables had individual cakes as centerpieces with the place card vases providing the touch of color and flowers. The guests took their little vases home as their favors. The roses were absolutely beautiful; I did order samples of about 15 different colors earlier in order to decide which color would work best. If you have somebody who can help with the arrangements, then I wouldn't hesitate. I also have a friend who used bowls of ivy as the centerpieces, with roses stuck in watering tubes into the ivy. It was lovely, and not terribly expensive.
Reply:I don't know about Costo, but I've used Sam's Club flowers for years and they are gorgeous. Never had a problem at all.
Reply:I know the prices are tempting, but I wouldn't do it for fear that the flowers will be crappy. I'd go with a florist or someone where I'll be able to SEE the flowers first.

If you're looking into cost-saving ideas, think about getting flowers from close family members' yards. You'll have beautiful bouquets and centerpieces at no cost, and plus they'll be meaningful!
Reply:I think you would regret it...big time!

Looking for a good Bakery for detailed cake order?

Hi, Can someone please advice me on a good bakery in Dubai?

My birthday is next month and I want a cake to be made to order, but from my previous experiences it comes no close to what it should have been like!

So please please if anybody knows a really good and I mean really "good" cake chefs, or bakery's or whatever (For really difficult and detailed cakes) please do tell me. It does not matter whether they are expensive or not. As long as they can make flowers and ribbons look like the real deal and not some chunks of square over a semi-round cake!

Reply:Would strongly suggest Mister Baker in Karama post office street or in the Deira side its located in AbuBaker Street near by United Hyper Market. They are the best bakeries i have heard and tried so far. If you want something cheaper and nice as well then try House of Cakes located in Al Shaab colony their contact number is 042666687. You can check both the places and then make a decision. Happy Birthday in advance.
Reply:Mr Baker is a good place, but I think that the best cake I had in Dubai was in Le Notre, you can find it in the third floor of the Emirates mall , or in Jumera road, it is really the best. try a piece as soon as possible so that you can decide in time.

The French bakery on the way to Jumeira from Sheikh Zayed road is also great.

Happy Birthday.

Where can I find or order Blue Roses in the NE United States?
Any florist can order them for you from their suppliers. If you're stuck, call 1-800-FLOWERS. But I would go to a nice neighborhood florist where they special order often for things like weddings.
Reply:If you are looking for blue roses to plant, try looking up"Jackson and Perkins." They are a rose grower/plant supplier and have top quailty stuff for reasonable prices.

What makes a memorable wedding table for guests. I am wanting to use tulle, flowers and candles NEED HELP???

I am having round (14) tables seating 10 each. I don't want a cluttered table, already ordered disposable camera's. Want to use tulle, flowers. But can't find any good pictures of great tables, any suggestions? Am having a black %26amp; White theme.

What makes a memorable wedding table for guests. I am wanting to use tulle, flowers and candles NEED HELP???
What about a large clear glass bowl filled with water. Then put foating candles and white flowers in it and arrange the tulle around the base of the bowl. Scatter flower petals around the tulle. This way you have a stunning centrepiece that won't clutter up the table.

You could use a large tall clear vase also and fill the bottom with black and white pebbles and have fish swimming around in it and then arrange tealight candles around the base with flower petals or glitter confetti scattered too.

I saw a wedding set up once and the fish in the centrepieces looking unreal and was such a talking point. They aren't expensive either if you go for black goldfish types or add a touch of colour to the table with a coloured fish.

best of luck
Reply:How about a tall candle in the middle, tulle around it (be careful though...you don't want it to catch fire (maybe use a glass hurricane for the candle), and sprinkle flower petals and a little confetti on the tulle. I agree with not wanting it too cluttered. In addition to the cameras you could also burn a cd of love songs...one wedding I was in used a picture of the bride and groom as a cd label sticker. You could also use some of the songs that you have picked out for the reception (first dance, father/daughter dance, etc...just not the chicken dance or the hokey pokey!!) lol Hope this helps and congratulations!
Reply:a memorable wedding table? ensuring your guests seated at each table have something in common! something to get the conversation flowing.

i like your idea of keeping your table simple and uncluttered! i wouldn't use tulle, instead of flowers what about a low bowl of floating candles? inexpensive, pretty, and uncluttered!
Reply:Hi. Yes, you don't want to crowd things too much. Remember that everyone needs room for plates, glasses, utensils, etc.

I would not have tulle for a centerpiece at all. If you want to ONLY stay with the black and white theme, then purchase some black vases and use white flowers - roses, baby's breath, etc.

One very nice accent for black and white is RED. I love red roses and it would look very elegant. You could put them in a WHITE vase.

Whatever you decide on.....I would keep it minimal a few flowers with some greens in a bud vase. Then you can put all of this on a mirror - say a 10" round mirror (since you are having round tables.) ....then put a few votives or tea lights around that! Very elegant!

Reply:Black and white is like for funerals. Not weddings. Decorate the tables the way you like.

Tell me about your Costco Wedding Flowers?

IF you have ordered flowers from Costco, I'd love to hear about your experience.

Tell me about your Costco Wedding Flowers?
I had costco do my wedding flowers they were just what I had dreamed of. Mine were dark red rose and sun flowers and dasies. I loved them and the people there were very helpful and kind
Reply:My cousin purchased flowers from them and seemed happy with the service. When you purchase from a huge warehouse supplier, you really can't go wrong.
Reply:I'm going through a florist because I want specific flowers, but my bro and SIL had Costco flowers for their wedding.

They were absolutely gorgeous and beautiful and perfect!

The ONLY downside that I remember is that they can't guarentee they will have certain flowers, so she had to go back shortly before the wedding to pick out hers. I don't remember exactly but it was somewhere between about 10 days or 20 days ahead of time. So, you'll have to have flowers that are in season (which is cheaper anyways) and may have to budge if you had your heart set on one specific type of flowers, but you definitely will get a big selection and the colors you want.

My SIL chose orangish/pinkish lillies and everyone commented on how beautiful they were! I would whole heartedly recommend going there!

Peony flowers and ants. What is the relationship?

I have a full stand of peony Flowers, but they have ants on them. Someone told me that the bud requires some action from the Ants in order to bloom. I think they are just after the sweet nectar.

Who has the answer?

Peony flowers and ants. What is the relationship?
Peonies don't need ants to bloom, but the ants don't really hurt the flowers either. The ants are after the nectar, but even if the ants aren't there the peonies will bloom fine.

At worse the ants are unsightly on the flowers, at best they might remove enough of the sticky nectar to aid the flowers minimally.
Reply:The ants are attracted to the sweet substance released on the flowers of the plant. What is nice about having Peonies is they also help keep ants from wanting to enter your house, because the plants attract them so much they spend their time on the plants. I haven't tried it, but they say that if you plant the Peony by the entrances to your house the ants will definitely stay outdoors with the plants.
Reply:The ants help the Peony to bloom, just make sure when you cut them to take in the house you get rid of any ants.
Reply:They do require the ants for the bloom to open. I have several Peony bushes.
Reply:I've been told the ants crawl between the petals and help them unfurl.

You might find a good stationary. Where I live, we have "If its Paper" and "NC Paper Co." Both specialize in party supplies, cake decorating supplies, plates, napkins, decorations, cards, envelopes, art paper, everything. But, most important, and to your point, they have the boxes you want. They have ready to assemble boxes in just about any configuration you can imagine.

What is the usual order of procession for the wedding party?

I have the usual people in my bridal party. Best man, M.O.H., groomsmen, bridesmaids, flower girls, etc. etc etc.

What is the usual order for the wedding party to enter?

What is the usual order of procession for the wedding party?
I've seen a few in my years as a wedding musician. Groom at the alter with the paster. mother of the bride if you'd like. then the last brides maid first with the last grooms men all the way up to the BM and the MOH. Then the girls and then YOu!
Reply:I wanted to correct the "traditional" Catholic wedding processional in the above link. This is INCORRECT. The Catholic Church does NOT support the outdated and sexist tradition of the bride being "given away". This is NOT in any official church doctrine, it is simply a secular outdated tradition. More and more churches are banning it, thankfully. Feel free the research this.

The CORRECT way is for the priest/cantor, etc. to process in, then the bridal party (either in pairs, in rows, or as singles), and then the BRIDE and GROOM TOGETHER, as THEY are celebrating the Sacrament of Marriage. THEY will be representing the ceremony "message" that day, not the priest, so they enter LAST together.

This is how my Church does it, and many other Catholic Churches are not allowing the bride to be "given away" either. I would have walked with my fiance anyway, as we are both equal consenting adults who are entering into marriage. In my mind there should be no other way. But I am sooo glad my church is trying to keep wedding ceremonies true to the faith.

I cannot wait until ALL brides get rid of the outdated, sexist, degrading, insulting, and horrid tradition of being given away to her new "owner" like a cow, while he waits for his "gift" at the front of the aisle.

If you still want a "traditional" secular procession, there is no reason why a bride can't walk down the aisle herself, unless her legs are painted on.

I don't buy into that "I want to honor my parents" crap. There are many others ways to include your mom/dad in your wedding without them walking you down the aisle. They're not getting married, YOU are. You don't seem them walking your brothers down the aisle, do you? And yet I'm sure they'll still feel included on HIS big day.

I have to wonder what is going on in a bride's head when she has a great career, her own house, has lived away from home for 5 years, and has had a live in boyfriend for 2, and yet she still has her dad walk her down the aisle...what is woring with today's women?

EDIT: How can you thumbs down FACTS...it's the truth...whether you like it or not. How dare you insult my religion with your brainwashed ignorance...

http://www.onewed.com/articles/34/cathol...

The bottom line is, while there are some "common" ways to enter, some religions and/or cultures do things differently, with good reason. Also, for secular weddings, the couple can choose to enter their own wedding however they want.
Reply:To be honest, it really depends on which religion you are. In general, its different at different religious centers. Here is a website that gives examples for each religious tradition

http://weddings.about.com/od/yourwedding...
Reply:Normally the bridesmaids enter followed by the maid on honor. Next the flower girl and ring bearer together. THen the mother of the bride usually stands as a signal for all to stand as the music (usually here comes the bride) plays as you enter with your father or whomever will be walking you down. As for the guys, they are usually already standing at the altar. They enter from the right with the officiant before the processional begins.

If they are not going to be at the altar with the groom they will enter with each of the bridesmaids and the MOH. Then the flower girl and ring bearer, then you. Hope this helps.

Can anyone recommend a good florist in Connecticut area to deliver flowers for a friends birthday on Saturday?

I am ordering from the UK, online, to be sent to a friend who is studying at Yale, and it's really hard to figure out which floristy is good for fresh flowers, stylish displays and delivery from the websites. I'm thinking of something like 12 red roses, a purple themed bouquet or a purple orchid in a pot and our budget is around $60. Thanks.

Peony flowers and ants. What is the relationship?
The ants are attracted to the sweet resin exuded on the flower buds.
Reply:Leave the ants alone.. They help open the flowers, and pollinate them. Without ants the plants will not flourish.
Reply:The ants are attracted, but it's more than that. They eat off the sticky stuff, and are necessary for the peony to open! (So they work together). Isn't nature fascinating?!

What plants need darkness in order to live?

Which plants need a dark period in order to grow. Lets assume that it's not a consumable crop and that it doesn't flower or isn't needed to flower. Is there a way to find out, or a list somehow?

What plants need darkness in order to live?
Some plants do require daily darkness to grow normally. For example, tomato plants receiving 24 hours per day of light get lesions on their leaves. Other plants, such as some houseplants, seem to grow fine with continuous electric

light. Some plants require a daily light period (photoperiod) of less than a certain number of hours in order for them to produce flowers. These are called short day plants. Short day plants, such as chrysanthemum and poinsettia, would certainly require some daily darkness in order to be able to produce flowers.

Reply:all plants can go through living with out sunlight ... sunlight just causes photosynthesis and creates color all you need to do is keep watering
Reply:Actually, all plants need dark periods to grow. That's because many plants will undergo oxygen respiration in the dark, as well as regain water lost during the day. Many plants also undergo Crassulic Acid Metabolism, where, in order to prevent water loss during the hot tropical day, they sequester carbon dioxide at night in Crassulic acid, and then use this store of carbon dioxide to fuel photosynthesis during the day.

Reply:For the past three years I have taken my mother to a local green house that my mother and father love to buy flowers at and I let her pick out some flowers. I usually spend about $40. She has bought hanging baskets, but this year we are living in a new house. The old house had a place on the porch for her to hang a hanging flower plant. This year there is not a spot. My parents have not planted any flowers yet in there flower beds so she may buy flowers for them.

Where to purchase wedding flowers?

Were getting married in the Spring and have looked into flowers for our wedding at local flower shops and they are quite expensive. I was wondering if there are any ways that we could save money. Or if anyone knows of any cheap places that we could order flowers. Any suggestions/ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Where to purchase wedding flowers?
I found that some sites online had awesome prices for silk, if you would consider silk flowers. I had hot pink peonies as the main flower for my wedding and used silk, and it turned out awesome! (I can send pics of ours if you like!)
Reply:Hobby Lobby and MIchaels run sales periodically. We purchased ours for under $130 for them all. If you have any creative streak in you, try it.
Reply:We're using www.growersbox.com, the online wholesale florist. (Someone else mentioned them earlier.) Their flowers are beautiful, and they have been so helpful -- with everything from the names of the roses we're using and how to care for them to when to order, etc. etc. The Growers Box has several "wedding in a box" packages to choose from... starting with 100 roses, greens and baby's breath for $150.00. (http://www.growersbox.com/wedding-flower... You can also order gerbera daisies, tulips, carnations, lilies, etc.

If you have some crafty friends or relatives, this may be the way to go. You can make your own hand-tied bouquets, corsages and bouttonieres. (Check out: http://www.save-on-crafts.com/roundbouqu... for some ideas.) Then you can put the rest in some nice vases for centerpieces and/or use flower petals as part of the decorations. You can even purchase or rent a large silk flower arrangement and add real flowers to it for more height, depth and beauty.

Good luck on your special day!

Another alternative for real flowers is Costco.
Reply:If you go to your closest Sam's Club, they have a great selection of fresh flowers. The floral shops in my area purchase their flowers there(and resale them at a huge mark up price). They are cheaper than wholesale flowers.

Ordering flowers from ftd.?

ok i want to surprise somebody by sending her pink roses. but i want it to be a mystery and not have my name or address on it to say who ordered..

and i was just wondering if once they are delivered, will they attach my address and visa name account all on the delivery flowers for her to see?

Ordering flowers from ftd.?
Nope, it will include a note, to which you can say whatever you want. Any account information is only made available to the account holder (you).
Reply:No, not if you don't want them to.
Reply:nope, I sent my mom some flowers for easter, she had not idea!!
Reply:That depends on the florist and the state where they are located.

In the State of NY, sending an anonymous gift can be a basis for "Stalking in the fourth degree." A retailer who knowingly delivers an anonymous gift could also be held liable.

Therefore, our store policy is that 1) we would honor your request of wanting to remain anonymous, but 2) IF she asked, we would tell the name.

We generally discourage our customer to send his gift anonymously. From a recipient perspective, an anonymous gift could be seen more annoying (or even threatening) rather than mysterious.
Reply:No, not if you don't want them to.

Can i order from a floral wholsaler with a simple business privilege license for retail?

I have a business...it has nothing to do with flowers. But i have a retail license nonetheless. I should be able to order supplies that aren't necessarily for resale correct? If i am planning a huge event for my business, i should be able to use my license for supplies for floral arrangments rather than paying an actual florist, for example, correct? As long as it is business related, i should have no problem with opening accounts with wholesalers, right? Or do i specifically have to be a florist to buy flowers wholesale?

Can i order from a floral wholsaler with a simple business privilege license for retail?
If you buy products for end use you have to pay sales tax or use tax on the purchase. Yes, you can buy the materials at wholesale prices from a wholesaler, but you will have to report and pay taxes.

You can open accounts with any potential vendor, that is not an issue, but if you don't resell the merchandise you buy from a wholesaler, you have to pay taxes on it.
Reply:They may only want to deal with actual retail florists. It's the wholesalers decision

Ordering Wholesale Flowers Online?

Let's get real, flowers are expensive. They are really expensive for something that dies in 2 or 3 days. However, I have to admit, they really do give weddings a little something extra.

I don't want a lot of flowers. I actually think too many flowers is tacky and unoriginal. However, I do want simple, clean and classic rose centerpieces on my tables.

I was thinking about ordering roses from an online wholesale florist and putting together these centerpieces myself (and with help from family and some friends)

However, I know that ordering from wholesale can be hit or miss. I was thinking about pink roses. However, the color "pink" can vary greatly between each bunch of flowers. Pink can even be different from week to week, based on how the flowers have been growing.

Has anyone order flowers online through a wholesale? Particularly Roses? What was your experience?

What about ordering bouquets?

Ordering Wholesale Flowers Online?
Hi and congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

YES.....I have done this! I ordered through www.rosesource.com.

I will give you the link at the end. I know exactly what you mean by being nervous about ordering online, but my experience was wonderful and I would HIGHLY recommend them! You can read my testamonial on their site under "Gail B."

I ordered 250 roses for my son's wedding in 2006. They arrived EXACTLY when they were supposed to.....on the dot. They said "by 11 a.m." and they were here about 10:45 a.m. You can track your order through Fed Ex. And....you can also speak with a representative if you have questions.

Now....look at all the "pinks" that they have. You can specifically order whatever "color" you want.

My only warning is that it is A LOT of work! Since I ordered so many roses it took me 2-1/2 hours to unwrap them.....cut the stems....and put them in water with floral food. Also, since the wedding was in the summer....thankfully I have an air conditioned house. They tell you NOT to put them into a refrigerator unless it is specifically made for flowers. The other thing....it's hard because they don't look "the best" when they arrive....but don't despair because they are all "squished together." Once they have been in the water with floral food for a few days....they looked GREAT!

With the wedding being on a Saturday, the roses arrived on Thursday, and then my sister and I did up the arrangements on Friday. It all worked out great and they looked beautiful!

Where I live, an individual rose runs $4. So, with ordering 250 roses...it would have cost me $1,000....but instead I only paid $160!! (The prices have gone up slightly from 2006, but it's still a great deal!)

ALSO....you CAN order already "done up" bouquets, which are still cheaper than ordering from a florist and it's free shipping! Click on "wedding flowers", then click on "bouquets."

Good luck. Email me if you have further questions.

Pro Flowers is the best! I have given and received flowers from them many, many times and they are always gorgeous and last at least 10-14 days without looking wilted or dried out. The link above will take you to their wedding sections where you can view different flowers, bouquets, arrangements, and packages. Oh, and their prices are far less than any florist I've been to, and like I said, amazing quality. Definitely worth checking out.
Reply:First of all that is a very beautiful centerpeice! That is a lovely and very elegant idea!

Secondly, I also was thinking of ordering my flowers online and haven't ordered them yet, but I have heard of a few vendors who work with www.theflowerexchange.com and they said that they have wonderful quality and prices.

Good luck and congrats!
Reply:I ordered 100 ivory and white roses from a whole online store and they were perfect. They came in a refrigerated Fed Exp truck and every single rose was beautiful.

I used http://www.growersbox.com/

They need to get there at least 3 days prior. I should have had mine arrive 5 days prior so they'd have more time to open. They were nicer than any florist, and fresher, too. Not to mention a fantastic price.
Reply:Don't forget you will need storage of the centerpieces. Refrigeration is best %26amp; finding that much space can be hard if not impossible to do at home! Also, you will have to arrange for your family, friends or coordinator to transport the flowers the day of %26amp; set them up. Check with your site to see if they will let someone come early to deliver %26amp; set up.

If you really want to go this route, you might want to do a test run. Your shower or a party would be a good trial run. Order a smaller pkg of flowers from the wholesaler, arrange them %26amp; see how they do during storage.

Good luck! Post pictures!
Reply:I am also in the same boat, I will be ordering my flowers from fiftyflowers.com, for the money they give you alot of flowers, I am getting 50 blue roses and 125 mixed white and yellow roses for $279 and that includes shipping... so I will be making all the bouquets and everything but I'm keeping it all real simple im just adding some crystals to everything to bling it up lol.... the crystals are going to be these for my bouquet http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie... and these for my bridesmaids: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie... you can also get a crystal letter to put in your bouquets
Reply:DONT DO IT ONLINE YOU ASKING FOR EXTRA PROBLEMS ON YOUR DAY you wont get to see them till they arrive and you may think there ugly and they might be ugly if your worried about cost go to a store and tell them your cost limit on flowers tell them what you want and they will help you I personally think that the only flowers you needs are the bouquet and maybe some small table arrangement on the tables but there is more things you can use in the arrangements then just flowers one wedding i went to used the amazing clear bowls and had blue gems at the bottom with fish in them and floating candles it was amazing
Reply:This website has a whole section about ordering flowers online. They will ship them to arrive on the wednesday before the wedding. All you do is throw them in water for a few days and then they are ready to be arranged.

This website has been around for years and they are located in California, so no import problems. They have several different levels of roses (sweetheart, standard - you pick the color, not the variety, and premium - about 16 varieties) and you order them in bunches of 25. They also have a lot of other flower options, everything from carnations to hydrangeas and ranocoluous. They are recommended in the book Bridal Bargains.

How do I send flowers to my sis-in-law in Florida when I live in the UK?

My sis-in-law in Florida gave birth to my niece last night! I live in the U.K. Is there some way I could orders flowers or a suitable gift for my sis-in-law and new born baby, to be delivered to the hospital in Tampa? I think only Interflora or Hallmark do it but they are sooo expensive and I am just a student of moderate means! Help!

How do I send flowers to my sis-in-law in Florida when I live in the UK?
The Internet is the only way in your case. Even ifyou live down here, it is expensive. However, I would not try to send it to the hospital since here in the states women only stay about 2 days and go home. Send it to her home...less stuff to carry home from the hospital. Another suggestion would be to send a plant which will continue to grow.

Reply:find a local florist in her area and pay via credit card or money order or whatever they say.

What are these flowers called?

i want to duplicate this cake for my wedding and need to order the flowers.

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e175/m...

What are these flowers called?
Cherry Blossoms.
Reply:I agree, these are most likely silk cherry blossom flowers. I doubt that you will be able to use fresh stems as they will be too big to fit on the cake and the stems will not be able to bend to fit the shape of the cake.

Your best bet is to use silk flowers or have the bakery make the flowers out of gumpaste.

Here are some links to see some samples of the silk cherry blossoms (warning: the pictures are not the greatest):

Reply:Looks like cherry trees but, their blossoms don't last long enough.

Find some similar flowers such as larkspur or delphinium.

Or hydrangeas.
Reply:They appear to be silk flowers, which resemble flowering crabapple, or a Cherry tree.

most of the time if u go to local florist and tell them where it's being sent they contact a florist in another town. that's how i do it. i live in a small town and i have family in a diff. small town and that's how they do it for me.

How to ask a girl for her address to send flowers on v-day?

I know this girl and whats a non-stalker way of asking her or a way of finding out her address in order to send her some flowers on valentine's day?

How to ask a girl for her address to send flowers on v-day?
If you don't know her address, you don't know her well enough to send flowers.
Reply:Cute!! If you know her last name you could look it up in the phone book or you could ask one of her friends. Just tell them you want to send her flowers but you didn't want to creep her out. If you're in school you could look it up in the school directory. Or, if you've known her for awhile, you could just tell her you want to send her something for Valentine's Day.
Reply:Not sure if there is a non-stalker way to do this...perhaps ask her friends or say u wanna talk at her house and get the address.
Reply:ask someone close to her like a sibling or a best friend where she stays. If you have her phone number call and ask her mom. If mom asks you why tell her the reason thats how you do something sweet for the girl you like and get in good with the mom at the same time. BEST OF LUCK CASANOVA!!!
Reply:tell her best friend you want to get her something for valentines day have her friend tell and ask if you may have her adress so you may send them to her. but dont let her best friend tell her who it is . if her best friend wont do that for you just look it up in the phone book and send her a note with the flowers discribing how you got her adress.
Reply:If you know where she works, that would be a good place to send them to her. Sometimes sending flowers to a girl at her house might be awkward if you don't know her well enough.
Reply:If you know her name and her home phone number look up her number in the phonebook and underneath the number will be her address! Or you could ask a friend, but then they would get nosy and start asking questions about why you want it.
Reply:in conversation ask her what her mom and dads name are then look it up in the phone book or google
Reply:well u could always ask one of her friends that know where she lives to give u the address..
Reply:That is a really sweet idea, and any girl would love to get flowers. The first thing you need is her home phone number, then you want to go to www.411.ca and do a reverse look up with her phone number, the address that is associated to that phone number will come up. I had to do this to send my boyfriend flowers lol. Good luck!!
Reply:if you know where she lives near then use Google Earth

Or you could give it to her in person!

I wnt 2 send flowers 2 a girl in a dffrnt school that is far away from me. How do I order & pay for them?

I'm sending them to a girl who lives an hour away from me and I can't go down there to pay for them. I don't have a credit card or a checkbook. I don't know how to do this.

I wnt 2 send flowers 2 a girl in a dffrnt school that is far away from me. How do I order %26amp; pay for them?
Visit a local florist who is part of a network like FTD. You can order the flowers there, pay for them in cash and they'll be delivered by a florist in the town in which she lives.
Reply:Make sure her school accepts flowers and orders because my school does not. It sucks... :(
Reply:put the money on a prepaid mastercard or visa that you can get at a grocery store, just make the arrangement on one of these sites (below) and check the prices, and do it that way

Reply:you could try money order. go to a post office and pay for it. or deliver them yourself.
Reply:You can send them free on http://valentineday.dmfree.net/ and you can also win a 100$ gift card of Hallmark.
Reply:Find a local florist and have them delivered to her school...I don't know how much it would cost to have them delivered but it might be more expensive since she lives an hour away. Also, see if you can have your parents order them online or over the phone to a local florist where she lives with their credit card and pay your parents the money with your cash. Good luck!

Is it too late to plant seeds for flowers???

first off thanks to all of you that answered my tomatoe question, I really appreciate it! Now I am just wondering if it is too late in the season to plant flower seeds, I ordered roll n grow seeds 2 months ago and just now recieved them- and am curious if it would just be a waste of time to plant them now or if I would have sucess with flowers???????

thanks again!

Is it too late to plant seeds for flowers???
It's not too late now, Plant spring flowers in the shaded areas.

You forgot to tell us where you are in the world. Antarctica? Alabama? Alaska?

My crystal ball is at the cleaner's, but in the Northern hemisphere you've got a shot.
Reply:I have tried the roll and grow and did not have any success, but it isn't that much trouble so why not give it a try. Just be sure that you kill out the weeds and grass where you are going to roll them out, and put up some kind of barrier so that you can keep them at bay. Keep the flowers moist until they start to grow, I think mine got too dry, and that stuff they grow them on drys out very fast.
Reply:Depends on the kind flowers, but I think you can still do it.
Reply:You can plant some flowers for next spring or you can still plant some flowers for this summer, but they will have to be fast growing ones. Look on the back of the seed packet to see how long it takes them to mature.
Reply:depends where do you live and do you have early or late winter
Reply:some might come up but you might want to save it for next season.
Reply:No it just depends on what kind of flowers. Look at the back of the package to see how long it takes for them to bloom. I think you can still have some, maybe in late August or Early September. That's a few months of enjoyment.
Reply:Depends on what kind...

What is the web site for ordering flowers on the internet?

find a local florist in the area in which the flowers are to be delivered. That way you avoid all of the 'service' and 'relay' charges that are accrued when you go through two or three different florists.

What is the web site for ordering flowers on the internet?
www.flowers.com

I've used them several times, and it has always been so successful! They get the arrangement to where it needs to be exactly when you need it. I highly reccommend them. It actually is a company called 1-800-Flowers. They are great!

Are florist order gatherers like 1300 flowers .com.au better than dealing with a real florist?

I dont want to talk about 1300flowers specifically, but generally speaking ordering from your local florist or from an online florist each have their advantages and disadvantages. Whilst companies like 1300flowers aren't florists and take a commission for orders they gather, they provide a convenience factor that you pay for. They are easy to contact via the internet or phone. When you phone the florist directly, you dont really know what standard you are going to get. If they dont have a web site, you can be ordering sight unseen and a lot of small florists have trouble rotating stock therefore you may be sending flowers that dont last too long. On the plus side, the florist may not be charging you for the amount of the commission that would go to the order gatherer or the relay service fee they are probably paying also. In my opinion, you are best dealing with real florists that are part of a network like us at http://www.galleryflowers.com.au or rosetime.com.au .

Because we are florists you get to speak to a florist, not a telephone operator. You can select from our standard range or make up something to order. Florist to florist networks share their orders amongst themselves which translates into better value for the customer because third party relay fees are avoided. So, its up to you.

What kind of vegetables, fruits, and flowers are good to grow in Houston, TX?

I am planning my yard and would like to do my own landscaping. What kind of vegetables, herbs, flowers and fruits are good for Houston climate hot, humid summer and mild winter. I want the fruit trees to serve both as fruit bearing as well as for shade to my house. The flowers should be a melangé of color. The vegetables should be able to supply seasonal veggies to my dining table. I know it is a tall order but any help would be appreciated. Thanks

What kind of vegetables, fruits, and flowers are good to grow in Houston, TX?
Tomatoes, strawberries, asparagus, squash, zuccini, watermelons (certain varieties will do much better than others), corn, okra (loves that climate), all types of peppers, carrots, onions, beats, radish, potatoes, pumpkins, cilantro, basil, canteloupe... hell, just about anything. Here's a link to our veg group... join it for better info....

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/OkVegGarde...
Reply:You could grow orange, plum, fig, pear and certain types of apple trees in your area. (Fall is the best time to plant so get ready!)

Herbs: Basil, rosemary, all types of mint...wow, you can grow almost any type herb. (indoors or outdoors)

Flowers.... Geraniums grow well in TX...they come in a variety of colors. Mexican Heather has small purple flowers. Lantana and sage comes in different colors also...

Visit your local Home Depot or Lowes. They will have the trees at the best prices with a year warranty. They will also have the plants that are in season.

Vegetables...I am not sure about...I have only grown tomatos. (those can be planted twice/year in your area).

Why do my indoor potted flowers die? I water them 1-3 times a week.?

Its mostly my gerbria ( not sure I spelt It right ). What kind of care does this type of flower require In order for It to stay looking healthy and alive. Also how often do they require watering. Most my plants and flowers die or droop.

Thank you.

Why do my indoor potted flowers die? I water them 1-3 times a week.?
Make sure there is plenty of light but not heat. I even find that ventillation helps. Windows open from time to time.

Use a good indoor pot plant fertiliser. That's the key.

Don't over water- once a week is ok. But when you do, make it a good watering. Put them in the sink or whatever an really water. Then leave them alone to do their thing.

Also, go talk to a plant shop person. They're usually really helpful.

If they're drooping it's water....dying is worse...
Reply:Over watering, especially in the dormant winter cycle might be your culprit.
Reply:the flower wont last on a gerbera in or out doors once the season is over that's it for the flower!

but outside the plant will stay %26amp; flower next year,

not sure if you can keep inside once it's finished flowering, but don't water much for indoor plants check if the soil is dry first,

I just have real common junky type of plants for indoor %26amp; they get no attention or food %26amp; they all thrive, the only name i have for one is the umberella %26amp; oh yeah mother in-law tongue is another, %26amp; you know that one you see in all the TV shows, its green skinny leaves %26amp; it looks real posh they are so great for indoors, even if its a dark kind of room, i even just stick a cutting straight into a pot %26amp; bring it straight in the house %26amp; a few lower leaves will fall off %26amp; then its fine

but i never use potting mix, i just use dirt %26amp; i've heard dirt is a no no but its works great
Reply:Because you are over watering them and they suffer from root rot. Cut down to once a week and don't be afraid to re-pot them in fresh soil.
Reply:Hello try put some stones in the bottom of the pot this helps drain the water and grow strong roots!
