What is the web site for ordering flowers on the internet?

find a local florist in the area in which the flowers are to be delivered. That way you avoid all of the 'service' and 'relay' charges that are accrued when you go through two or three different florists.

What is the web site for ordering flowers on the internet?
www.flowers.com

I've used them several times, and it has always been so successful! They get the arrangement to where it needs to be exactly when you need it. I highly reccommend them. It actually is a company called 1-800-Flowers. They are great!

Are florist order gatherers like 1300 flowers .com.au better than dealing with a real florist?

I dont want to talk about 1300flowers specifically, but generally speaking ordering from your local florist or from an online florist each have their advantages and disadvantages. Whilst companies like 1300flowers aren't florists and take a commission for orders they gather, they provide a convenience factor that you pay for. They are easy to contact via the internet or phone. When you phone the florist directly, you dont really know what standard you are going to get. If they dont have a web site, you can be ordering sight unseen and a lot of small florists have trouble rotating stock therefore you may be sending flowers that dont last too long. On the plus side, the florist may not be charging you for the amount of the commission that would go to the order gatherer or the relay service fee they are probably paying also. In my opinion, you are best dealing with real florists that are part of a network like us at http://www.galleryflowers.com.au or rosetime.com.au .

Because we are florists you get to speak to a florist, not a telephone operator. You can select from our standard range or make up something to order. Florist to florist networks share their orders amongst themselves which translates into better value for the customer because third party relay fees are avoided. So, its up to you.

What kind of vegetables, fruits, and flowers are good to grow in Houston, TX?

I am planning my yard and would like to do my own landscaping. What kind of vegetables, herbs, flowers and fruits are good for Houston climate hot, humid summer and mild winter. I want the fruit trees to serve both as fruit bearing as well as for shade to my house. The flowers should be a melangé of color. The vegetables should be able to supply seasonal veggies to my dining table. I know it is a tall order but any help would be appreciated. Thanks

What kind of vegetables, fruits, and flowers are good to grow in Houston, TX?
Tomatoes, strawberries, asparagus, squash, zuccini, watermelons (certain varieties will do much better than others), corn, okra (loves that climate), all types of peppers, carrots, onions, beats, radish, potatoes, pumpkins, cilantro, basil, canteloupe... hell, just about anything. Here's a link to our veg group... join it for better info....

Reply:You could grow orange, plum, fig, pear and certain types of apple trees in your area. (Fall is the best time to plant so get ready!)

Herbs: Basil, rosemary, all types of mint...wow, you can grow almost any type herb. (indoors or outdoors)

Flowers.... Geraniums grow well in TX...they come in a variety of colors. Mexican Heather has small purple flowers. Lantana and sage comes in different colors also...

Visit your local Home Depot or Lowes. They will have the trees at the best prices with a year warranty. They will also have the plants that are in season.

Vegetables...I am not sure about...I have only grown tomatos. (those can be planted twice/year in your area).

Why do my indoor potted flowers die? I water them 1-3 times a week.?

Its mostly my gerbria ( not sure I spelt It right ). What kind of care does this type of flower require In order for It to stay looking healthy and alive. Also how often do they require watering. Most my plants and flowers die or droop.

Thank you.

Why do my indoor potted flowers die? I water them 1-3 times a week.?
Make sure there is plenty of light but not heat. I even find that ventillation helps. Windows open from time to time.

Use a good indoor pot plant fertiliser. That's the key.

Don't over water- once a week is ok. But when you do, make it a good watering. Put them in the sink or whatever an really water. Then leave them alone to do their thing.

Also, go talk to a plant shop person. They're usually really helpful.

If they're drooping it's water....dying is worse...
Reply:Over watering, especially in the dormant winter cycle might be your culprit.
Reply:the flower wont last on a gerbera in or out doors once the season is over that's it for the flower!

but outside the plant will stay %26amp; flower next year,

not sure if you can keep inside once it's finished flowering, but don't water much for indoor plants check if the soil is dry first,

I just have real common junky type of plants for indoor %26amp; they get no attention or food %26amp; they all thrive, the only name i have for one is the umberella %26amp; oh yeah mother in-law tongue is another, %26amp; you know that one you see in all the TV shows, its green skinny leaves %26amp; it looks real posh they are so great for indoors, even if its a dark kind of room, i even just stick a cutting straight into a pot %26amp; bring it straight in the house %26amp; a few lower leaves will fall off %26amp; then its fine

but i never use potting mix, i just use dirt %26amp; i've heard dirt is a no no but its works great
Reply:Because you are over watering them and they suffer from root rot. Cut down to once a week and don't be afraid to re-pot them in fresh soil.
Reply:Hello try put some stones in the bottom of the pot this helps drain the water and grow strong roots!

I need help with Mothers day flowers?

I want to order my mum a really nice bouquet of flowers for mothers day. I've looked at a couple of well known flower delivery sevices but they all have really traditional pink flowers and my mum hates pink, and isn't keen on traditional.

Any advice on what flowers work well together and are modern in case i have to make my own bouquet?

If anyone knows where i can find some flowers that are a bit different from the norm online i would greatly appreciate it!

I need help with Mothers day flowers?
M%26amp;S (Marks and Spencer) have some lovely contemporary bouquets online for Mothers Day. :-)
Reply:Most high street florists do Interflora, or similar delivery service. Go into one, preferably your local one, and talk to them about it. They'll advise you on colour choice and what's available. This way, your mum gets what YOU want her to have, not what SOMEONE ELSE thinks she wants to have.

I know you want to do it online, but I think you'll be better off talking to somebody...that personal touch can make all the difference. Your mum is unique, her bouquet should be too

hope this helps xx
Reply:My mama used to love it when we picked her daffodils..
Reply:One year I got my mother a rose bush for Mother's Day- Blaze, which is a very vibrant red.

As for what flowers work well together- well, that depends on your tastes and what kind of look you're trying for. A few times I've made bouquets from wisteria and a few others that grew wild where I lived.

Good luck!

Anyone ever ordered fresh flowers online and had shipped to you? What company/were you happy with result?

I have sent and received ProFlowers (from ProFlowers.com) and in both instances I was very happy with the results. Great service and fresh, long-lasting flowers.

How many wedding flowers should I order? Are the flowers from Sam's Club any good?

i have to make my bridal bouquet, my bouquet for tossing, 7 bridesmaids bouquets, 12 boutineers, 5 pin on corsages, cake decorations, 20 larger centerpieces( large fish bowl jar), 40 smaller centerpieces(smaller fish bowl jar), and 2 large topiaries for outside of the tent. I do not want to use anything but pink roses for the wedding party but I plan on using pink roses and green hydrangea for my centerpieces. So tell me what you guys think.

How many wedding flowers should I order? Are the flowers from Sam's Club any good?
Sam's Club usually has nice flowers and affordable. The color combination sounds really nice.

2 dozen roses for your bouquets

4 dozen for bridesmaids

2 dozen for corsages/boutineers

10 dozen for large center pieces (for 6 roses)

4 dozen for small

4 dozen for topiaries

2 dozen for cake

So, get 30 dozen roses just to be safe.

I can't predict on the hydrangeas because I'm not certain of the size. Get more than you think you'll need, they're gorgeous filler.

I also made everything for my wedding...to save money. However, I was up until 3am the night before the wedding finishing. Be sure to get some help!

Congratulations and best wishes!
Reply:Yes. They are beautiful! I got them for my shower for centerpieces, and the planner at the place I had the wedding put them in bowls for me. I got married in Sept. and had fall flowers like sunflowers, mums and some roses. Good luck!!
Reply:Yes they are and also visit pro flowers.com.Their prices are really good.I really am not sure how many to tell you to buy. I think you may get your best deal with them on pink roses.Congratulations.

A good place to order a Bday cake to be sent to my parents?

My parents live in another state. I'd like to send them a Birthday cake. I see several places that ship cakes (the same places that ship flowers) Any suggestions of a place to order from?

A good place to order a Bday cake to be sent to my parents?
It's not cake but how about a Cookies by Design. (www.cookiesbydesign.com) or Cookie Bouquets.com or cookies in bloom.com.

Much easier to ship and still very festive.
Reply:Call their local supermarket.
Reply:Depends on where they live. In the Baltimore area definitely go for Charm City Cakes!

They have their own show on the Food Network- Ace of Cakes.

Their cakes are top notch but run about $500 per cake.

They will deliver but that is extra.

If your willing to spend that much, you will not regret it.

They have 40 flavors of cakes.

Has anyone ever ordered their wedding flowers from an on-line vendor?

I have ordered flowers on-line from http://www.mr-roses.com/ and am just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience. How did it work out?

Wedding is in 2 weeks!

Has anyone ever ordered their wedding flowers from an on-line vendor?
Hi. Yes, I ordered from http://www.rosesource.com/

for my son's wedding and they were fantastic. They arrived right on schedule and no problems. I would order again from them.

Two others that are popular are:

www.growersbox.com and www.bigrose.com

Both rosesource and growersbox sell LOTS of flowers, not strictly roses. Bigrose only sells roses.
Reply:im planning on using growersbox.com... its $320 for 120 stems: 60 orchid and 60 calla lillies... i haven't shopped around yet... this is the only place i've found those 2 flowers together ... I hope this is a reasonable price...
Reply:I'm thinking about doing this, www.proflowers.com send them to you already arranged.

Reply:Silk flowers are tricky. If you get the wrong ones they can look extremely cheap and tacky. I recommend going to a local craft store like Michaels or Garden Ridge so you can see what you are purchasing and do not end up disappointed. If you live in a large city you may even have a discount place that is just a huge warehouse of silk flowers. We have one here in STL but I cannot think of the name of it.
Reply:YAY! i had silk cherry blossoms for my wedding!

mine were pink and i used them as centerpeices, drapped them over the wedding arch, and used them to decorate the cake and the registration table! and they were GORGEOUS!

my wedding was japanese themed, because my husband and i are moving to japan in a couple of months!

my parents actually went to the philippines and bought 6 dozen cherry blossoms for 10x cheaper than you can get it anywhere i looked! i would sell you what i have but all my guests took them home and i only have one vase full =( left for me to take.

michael's does have cherry blossoms. but you might want to check it out and maybe you can order different colors. because i only saw white ones available there.

ebay has some in a variety of colors, but the batches are small.

not sure how many your looking for. but if its bulk, i suggest going to your local asian crafts store. if they don't have any, ASK THEM because they are the best people to ask and they'd most likely know where to get it cheap!

good luck and congrats!
Reply:Hi

I have spent ages looking online for silk peonies because I was also dissapointed with the craft stores - I was dissapointed with most Aust online stores too.

I found the best site was www.fioribelli.com The guy has won heaps of awards and because it's a US site we don't have to pay exhorbadant prices for quality silk flowers. Anyway check it out and see what you think. They have cherry blossoms 6 stems for $49.95 (approx $55 au). They have white but sold out of pink - if you want pink they should be able to get them in quickly for you!

I contacted then last week to see if they would ship to Australia and they said they would but to be wary of customs tax. I checked with customs and there is no tax if spending less than the equivalent of $1000 au.
Reply:it depends on wher u live. if ur in los angeles u can go downtown to the flower mart...im sure almost every city has a downtown. try lookingt there

Best site to order get well flowers on line ??

I personally think 1800flowers.com has a better selection than the other main floral site, ftd.com. (Both have good track records, but service depends on the local florist they contract with.)

1800flowers.com has some really cute arrangements, like the cocktail bouquets--not your typical "get well soon," but really fun: http://ww12.1800flowers.com/dataset.do?d...

They also have a lot of really nice Get Well bouquets.

Reply:Check out proflowers.com. I have received flowers from them in the past and they have lasted much longer than those ordered from ftd or 800flowers. When you order from proflowers they are shipped directly from the grower and not a third party.

When is the best time to plant flowering bulbs in order to bloom in spring?

Your answer is in this wonderful old movie called "Being There" with Peter Sellers (his last and playing the character called "Chancy Gardener"), which I am sure you must have seen at some point. But, it is worth going back and watching it again - the very last scene, in particular, is truly and anomalously precious (I am not gonna ruin it for you in case you haven't seen it or don't remember it), especially for an avid gardener like you. So again, I'll let "Chancy" tell you when to plant those flowering bulbs!

When is the best time to plant flowering bulbs in order to bloom in spring?
Before the first frost I think.
Reply:Before the first hard frost and most definitely before the first freeze. Bulbs like cold ground to grow in or become establlished, but if it's frozen, the establishing time is drastically reduced. They need to be introduced to the cold slowly. Just make sure the bulbs you select are proven to grow in your area.
Reply:end of summer, especially mums-
Reply:In the fall!
Reply:Plant before the first frost
Reply:It depends in what zone you live in....

Here in the NW we plant them in October or November.

Try Google...
Reply:Plant them in the fall.
Reply:Plant now, while the ground is still warm enough to work.

HELP. I want to send flowers to my man in south Korea?

My boyfriend is in the air force. I would like to send flowers to him from Texas. He mailing address is a mail box. Does any one know where I can get online to order flowers?

HELP. I want to send flowers to my man in south Korea?
try interflora

look at this link

http://www.interflora.co.uk/
Reply:Since he's in the air force, you can send flowers to him from AAFES (Army and Airforce Exchange Service aka "the BX"). If you are allowed to shop there (a military member or eligible dependent), you can send him flowers online from AAFES.com.

If you are not too committed to flowers, also try sending him something that will remind him of home. Most military members (myself included) want things from the states that aren't readily available overseas. Ask him what he what he misses the most (besides you) and send him that in a care package with pictures, etc. It'll be much more appreciated!
Reply:his 'juicy' already sent him flowers....lol, joking...

Ordering Mother's Day flowers online?

Does anyone know any good websites to order inexpensive flowers from? I'm leaning towards ProFlowers right now but I'm up for suggestions! Anything with free shipping would be great.

I need them to be fairly inexpesnive because I want to order two bouquets (for my mom and my stepmom). Thanks!

Ordering Mother's Day flowers online?
I've tried the Proflowers, 1800flowers and teleflora but I was never really satisfied with what they sent. The best bet is call a local flower shop in the area they live in and order the flowers. This way first of all they are more likely to get delivered on time (mothers day really busy time) because you went directly to the shop and the flowers will be nicer because they are looking for on going business in their local area.
Reply:Try http://www.flowersareus.com

They have a large selection of cut or live flowers and arrangements.
Reply:try to get the mini carnations instead of the roses since the roses do not last as long.

Have you had a good experience with ordering flowers from Sam's Club?

The majority of things that I have hear have been positive, and I have been considering ordering their bulk roses for my wedding. Has anyone ordered their roses? I am a little concerned about the delivery being late. If you have ordered before, would you suggest having them arrive a couple days ahead of the date? Thanks :)

Have you had a good experience with ordering flowers from Sam's Club?
i've never ordered from them before. i have used shop rite for flowers before and been satisfied.

i would have them arrive a day or two prior to. roses will keep well if you refridgerate them

i think you will be okay

best of luck
Reply:I ordered mine from Sam's. I was very pleased with the flowers. I was concerned just as you are about the deliver. Just make sure you order them on the right day! The day they are ordered is directly correlated with the day they are delivered. I didn't realize that until a day late! I ordered mine the day after I was supposed to, therefore they arrived a day later than I wanted. My wedding was on Saturday and they arrived on Friday. Everything worked out, but I was nervous. It was my own fault for not following the directions to a tee! I ordered many different kinds of flowers. I was pleased with all of them, but some of them never opened up before the wedding. We had the buds in the bouquets and flower arrangements, but it was still pretty. It actually gave my flowers a unique look, which I loved. Just make sure you have someone that knows what they're doing to help with the flowers. We had to cut the ends and put them in water as soon as they arrived. We also had a big cooler to keep them in overnight in a cafeteria. If it weren't for all the help from other people, it would never have worked. But the quality of the flowers was exceptional and I would do it again. Good luck!
Reply:I ordered mine from RoseSource.com and was quite pleased. I was so nervous about it -- you take a risk ordering your wedding flowers online. They came in on Thursday morning for my Saturday night wedding. We kept them in water and in the fridge for as long as possible. Most of the flowers looked perfect -- some were beginning to wilt a little, but we had enough that we could just toss those.

My mom and I arranged the bouquets on Friday night and wrapped the stems about 2-3 hours before leaving on Saturday. We did the corsages and boutonnieres on Saturday morning. The roses we got were a little too big for the corsages, so we made a quick emergency run to the grocery and got some small spray roses and baby's breath which were perfect.

We spent $200 on all of our flowers. We used 200 roses and had plenty for everything. (4 bouquets which were about 14-16 roses each and my gigantic bouquet which was about 32 roses. Also had about 12 boutonniers and 8 or so corsages.) We got married just after Christmas, so everything was still decorated! Great way to save money on decorations.

Good luck! (And I've heard positive things about flowers from Sam's, as well)
Reply:Arriving a couple of day prior will cause the flowers to open and die.
Reply:I ordered from Costco...and they were great...I ordered 30 dozen to be picked up the day before the wedding...when I got there...she said "take your pick" they were bundled in bunches of 2 dozen so she let me pick out the 15 bunches I wanted....and I made sure to pick the ones without the dying edges...or the ones without broken stems...They were gorgeous...

How do I go about sending flowers to someone in the hospital?

I have a friend in the hospital who just had surgery and I wanted to send some flowers (he's a guy, but I don't know what else to send). I thought I'd order from the 1-800-flowers or somewhere like that online....what instructions do I give in order for them to be delivered to the hospital?? I've never done it before. Thanks!

How do I go about sending flowers to someone in the hospital?
The flower place will know what to do. I'm sure they've delivered there before. Just make sure you get his room number to give them. You can get that information by calling the front desk at the hospital.

You should take them in person, I'm sure he'll appreciate it even more.

You could also send one of those cookie arrangements from www.cookiesbydesign.com or some other food gift basket. Guys love food lol.
Reply:hospital name, address, room number, name of recipient.
Reply:I have worked 4 years as a florist so I will be happy to answer your question. First of all is your friend in a hospital locally? If so go to your nearest florist and pick out what you would like and have them deliver it. If it isn't local, you can still go to the local florist and they will call the florist closest to his hospital and have them sent. You can also see some arrangements such as an FTD bouquet or something that they have done and tell them you want something like that. They can tell the other florist what you want as florist try to keep a variety on hand to duplicate arrangements shown in books. Of course some flowers may not be available due to seasons like tulips. They will often do it on the spot , but sometimes not, but you will know exactly what it is going to cost for the arrangement, the delivery fee and the wire fee. You just pay the local florist and the florists work out payment amongst the two of them. They are the go between and want to make you happy too. You can order from 1-800 flowers if you wish. They will have photos of arrangements on line. You would give them info on where to deliver and pay by credit card.
Reply:Normally theres a gift shop in the hospital sweetie. Go there..... they have lotssss of flowers and chocolate and cards.
Reply:here in uk that is banned now.

Orchids, what do i do now the flowers are dropping off?

hi to all,

does anyone know what i'm meant to do with the plant in order for it to flower againg, does it need pruning or do i just leave it as it is.

Orchids, what do i do now the flowers are dropping off?
It's supposedly summer time ! Put your orchid out side into a border (remove the cotton wool type fibre around the roots first) water in and leave until before a frost is due. Dig it up and wash the roots to remove any old soil and INSECTS. Pot it up in a slightly larger pot than the root base into some orchid compost. They need to feel tight and secure in a pot or they will not flower the following year. Bring indoors and try to keep it fed, watered and living in a south/south west facing environment without draughts.
Reply:Thanks for your vote and enjoy your orchids . Report It

Reply:let nature take its course
Reply:Just leave it.
Reply:My cheap Asda orchid is 2 years old now and my current flowers are dropping but I can clearly see the new bud that will grow to form a new set of flowers. They seem to open all but one of the flower buds leaving that one to grow on as the new set and so on.

When it finally stopped flowering I cut back the stalk and just waited. Watered as I used to when the leaves didn't look so glossy and firm. It grew a new leaf and then the flower stalk grew again..
Reply:Cut the flowered stem back to a joint in the stem, it should spring another flower stem from there. Feed it weekly with a VERY weak plant food, or get a proper orchid food, and spray it every day or as often as you can with plain water. Never let the compost get wet, in the wild they live attached to the side of trees and live on drips so the roots rot really easily. It probably won't flower again until next year, but you might be lucky if it likes you. Good luck with it.
Reply:Cut the flower stalk down to about 5 cm long, keep feeding it.

When it starts to put on new central leaves, repot, into a pot only slightly bigger, with fresh compost. Keep feeding through summer.

Has anyone ordered flowers from 1-800-FLOWERS.com before??

I've never used them before and I REALLY WANT good flowers sent to someone special and will appreciate any comments if you've used them before.

Has anyone ordered flowers from 1-800-FLOWERS.com before??
I have recieved many bouquets from 1-800-Flowers.com. I feel that first and foremost, they are incredibly over priced. Second, they aren't always the best quality, when I had them show up at my house, it wasn't a 1-800-Flowers truck, it was just some local flower shop. You would be much better off giving the flowers to the person yourself, if that's not a possibility because you can't get to the area, etc. I suggest you see what other flower shops in the person's area can offer.
Reply:Jimmy

Hi, I know what you mean, we all want the best we can get! Well, Jimmy, not to worry, let me tell how these guys work. They just have a catchy number is all! And some pretty pictures! You call them, same as I did, or do, and they call where ever it is you need the flowers sent! They take a cut of the cost and everyone is happy! Thats IT. They just call the local florist in whatever town or city that the flowers are needed. Because they are who they are, they have "connections" and get special rates. It is cheaper than picking up the phone and calling the local florist because it's a 1-800 number.

Hope this helps. Don't worry, your special sweetie will get exactly what you tell them to give her/him. Just don't bother with the tip, the florist won't get it.. Well, that is unless you speciffically tell them to tip the florist of course.
Reply:I haven't ordered from 1-800-flowers because they are overpriced, but I have received roses sent through them. The roses were beautiful and they did last a long time. They were very well packaged, so much so that it was a bit of a pain to unpack them.

When I was looking for wedding flowers I checked out their website because my mom could get a discount. Even with the discount the flowers were terribly expensive, and the choices were very limited.

Why is costco, trader joe's,1-800 flowers, and large corporations trying to overshadow flower shops?

I don't understand why large corporations take advantage of small businesses, all those online "florists" like pro-flowers, blooms.net and 1-800 flowers, rip people off.

I ordered a large arrangement from 1-800 flowers and I didn't get the best quality in flowers, I would rather order from a local flower shop now, especiall y those that are family owned.

they give you the best service and products it was worthe the money, pricey, but worth every penny. I still don't understand why some people are still dumb enough to support those large corporations that have no knowledge or passion like a REAL flower shop does. Is it because small flower shops don't have enough money to advertise like large corporations do?

Why is costco, trader joe's,1-800 flowers, and large corporations trying to overshadow flower shops?
It's called capitalism. Get used to it because it's not going anywhere any time soon.

What are some good light pink flowers for a wedding?

I'm looking for flowers for bouquets, decorations, and centerpieces. Would like to know some good flowers, preferably some I could order online and make my own arrangements. I'm getting married in May, so I'm looking for flowers that would be in bloom at that time. Thanks!

Frist of all "Congratulations" on your upcoming wedding. Best Wishes!!!

I like Carnations. They last forever and really can be tinted very pretty. I saw a wedding with carnations and roses. very pretty!!
Reply:May is the perfect time for a wedding, unless it is on Mothers Day weekend. The flower prices will almost double at that time.

So best to choose a date after that.

There are lots of flowers to choose from:

bridal pink standard tea roses

baby pink or cherry blossom pink spray roses (lots of roses on one stem)

baby pink sweetheart roses (1 rose per stem but much smaller than a standard rose)

mini carnations

alstroemeria lillies (delicate small lillies that are quite durable)

leptosporumum (a frilly elongated stem that is covered in tiny little pink flowers)

baronia (a stem which is covered in a darker pink filler flowerO

Don't forget you can also tint flowers or spray paint them (using a good quality floral spray of course)

mini cala lillies are a favorite in this area. Simply spray the back part of the lilly lightly to get the shade that you want. You can the same with cymbidium orchids, dendrobium orchids, daisies etc.

Good luck!
Reply:I too got married in May, although quite some time ago. I had great results with tulips for bouquets and peonies for centerpieces. Both are in bloom in May and, because the peonies themselves are such a large flower (about 3 + inches across), they are terrific to make simple, but lush, centerpieces with lots of greenery.

Be sure to specify light pink, as both peonies and tulips come in lots of shades or pink.
Reply:Roses and Carnations mixed or just one is really beautiful.
Reply:can try champagne rose, a very light pink with little bit of champagne colour. I use tat for my wedding too...
Reply:One word "PERFECT"
Reply:Roses tulips and carnations are the first ones you think of...but most white flower can be tinted to a shade of pink by mixing up food coloring with water.... try it to see if it works first but I'd go to a floral market and see what is available, you'd really be surprised at the flowers that are out there that you'd never think of or plain didn't know about. Good Luck!!!!
Reply:Carnations are always pretty. Pink roses would be beautiful.
Reply:Ask a florist in your area, and you can probably work out a good deal with them to buy in quantity. The established ones would know the "in season flowers" for a paticular month, and would know where to get out of season flowers for you too. I would suggest either looking up the paticular flower online to be sure it suits what you have in mind, or get the florist to furnish pictures or magazines with what the flower looks like. Some give discounts on weddings also.

Congratulations!

Try carnations, or pink roses, all flowers can be dyed. Even the silk ones.

Congrats on your wedding and I wish you the best.
Reply:Cherry blossoms? Maybe dogwood blossoms? Marrying in May, there should be quite a variety available.
Reply:Roses! Oh, wait, summer flowers... try tulips, I like those.

Should I send my mom flowers on Valentine's Day?

Should I order flowers and have them sent to my mom? I really want to give her a surprise, because she and my dad got a divorce last year. So she will be alone on Valentine's Day, and has to work that evening. Should I send her some tulips or something as a surprise?

Should I send my mom flowers on Valentine's Day?
That sounds really sweet, I suggest orchids. Moms love them

What kind of Flowers did you order to send to your Mother for Mother's Day??
I always do, until now. A $30 arrangement was going to cost $20+ to deliver, so they can go pound sand. I sent a check and card instead.
Reply:depends on how old your mom is and how old you are

if your flowers arrive on time thats all that matters in the long run. next year, try a hanging basket of flowers or a potted flower that she could then plant and see all year

Reply:none, my dad's highly allergic and throws them away if we get her flowers
Reply:I sent a mixed bouquet, too. She called me and said they were awesome. Don't sweat it, girl. You sent them and I'm sure she loves them. If you want to know if that particualr florist delivered pretty flowers, ask her if they're in good shape. My mom will flat out tell me if they look good or not, and then I know if I should use that florist again. She's across the country, I have no way of knowing if they were quality flowers unless I ask her. Ask your mama, she'll tell you.

If I am ordering roses/flowers online, and they say that they will be shipped "bareroot", what does that mean?

"Bareroot" means they will ship it to you as a few 1 foot long stems with 5 or 6 roots. You will have to supply the pot and soil . What you do is snip a little bit off the roots to stimulate growth. Fill the pot up 75% with soil. Place bareroot rose in pot and continue adding soil by hand surrounding the roots with dirt with your fingers until they are just covered. Leave soil about 3 to 4 inches from top of pot so when you water you dont lose dirt. I have planted thousands of bareroot rosesthis way as this is how nurseries order them. When planted in January, and greenhouse grown, they usually take 2 months to be fully flushed with foliage and 2 more months to bloom. This is approximate, as all plants are different. One ting, make sure you don't cut off too much of the roots, as I have seen roses never flush out as a result. Hope this helps answer your question.

If I am ordering roses/flowers online, and they say that they will be shipped "bareroot", what does that mean?
Bareroot roses are simply roses that come wrapped in a plastic sleeve and not a pot. They are not high-maintenance as the rumour goes, but they do need a bit of special handling.

Bareroots don't have as extensive a root system as potted roses do. Hence, they need to be soaked in water prior to planting (they tend to dry out quicker than potted plants).

Also, if you are having them shipped to you, it is important to get them in side as quickly as possible, so they don't "cook" on your front step.

Plant them after soaking, and keep them well watered.

Hope that helps!
Reply:The plants will not be packed in soil and will be very young.

Has anyone ordered bridal flowers from Costco?

They have complete sets for the entire wedding party for less than $500.00 delivered to your home. I called them, their rep said it looks just the the photos online. If you've ordered flowers from them or Sams club was it worth it? Did you save $money? Thank you

Has anyone ordered bridal flowers from Costco?
My neighbor's daughter had her flowers from Sam's Club and they looked amazing! She used white roses and blue hydrangea's. She saved a ton of money and they really did look amazing.

The only thing was they were not premade arrangements she and her mother had to make them.
Reply:My sister did she said they were such a good deal compared to the local florist and they looked amazing at the wedding...

you can order the flowers you want ahead of time and then they arrive fresh for you..

*my sister used to be a flowrist so she figured out the cost of what it would have been if i bought the flowers from a florist and it would have been over $2000 in flowers!! so ya go with costco- i honestly recomment it!!!

Anyone order flower online??

I am planning know to order a flower online for my girlfriend, and I chose ftd.com. One thing I am concerned is that they mentioned that they would send the flower using UPS or Fedex... Will they ship the flower in a box or something?? Because it would be really weird if my girlfriend receives the flower in a box, it wouldn't be romantic.. anyone know about this?

Anyone order flower online??
If you order flowers on-line, you are dealing with two completely different businesses. Neither is a florist.

(1) One type of business is an order-transfer agent. We (real florists) call them "Order Gatherers." They take your order and then electronically transmit the order to a real mom%26amp;pop florist for fullfillment and delivery. This is called "Wire Service" and FTD.com does wire service, so do1-800-flowers.com and other numerous numbers of flower-sounding dot-coms. So-called "same-day delivery" uses this mechanism.

(2) Another type of business is called Direct Shipper. They ship unarranged flowers in a box using UPS or Fedex. ProFlowers.com is the best-known example. FTD.com does this Direct Shipping, too. If their website says "This item will be shipped by UPS/Fedex", they are not kidding. The picture is quite misleading because it shows a professionally arranged bouquet; but in reality, your recipeint will get flowers in a box. 1-800-flowers, too, offers Direct Shipping products. Flowers in a box are always cheaper than arranged flowers, however.

Your best option, in our opinion, is to call a local florist direct. This way, you would be sending, not a bunch of flowers in a box, but arranged flowers. In addition, you would save so-called "(Wire) Service Charge" which is around $13 for FTD.

For more info, you can take a look at our article for flower consumers below.

just ordered a "get well" bouquet that arrived just as the picture indicated. view their website before ordering. u will not be disappointed.
Reply:FTD.com does not ship flowers from a central location. They coordinate with a florist contracted with them and will ship from the nearest location to your destination. The flowers are boxed in some way to protect the vase and arrangement. The flowers are not boxed separately unless it's stated in the arrangement description. (Like long stem roses boxed specially in a gift box with ribbon). They know very well that presentation is part of the joy, so don't worry.

A Yahoo search for "tropical flowers" (include the quotation marks in the search box) yields 972,000 results. If you do the same search, and are willing to spend a little time exploring, I'm sure that you will quickly find the information you seek. Most of the sites on just the first page of results are Hawaiian sources.

Where can i buy either carnations or marigold flowers in bulk?

hi ppl, i need help! lol where can i find a safe online store or local store that would sell mainly carnation or marigold flowers in bulk or any other kind of flowers. Im talking like an order of over 800 flowers. plzzzzzzz help! lol have a grt day, thank you!

Where can i buy either carnations or marigold flowers in bulk?
Try connecting with a local "Wholesale florist" . . . small shops buy from them. They could order whatever you need.

An independent florist shop should be able to negotiate with you on that also. Since they would be doing minimal handling they would keep the markup low.
Reply:My favorite online store in Gurneys, because they refunded/replaced any plants that did not grow. With ordering that many, I would phone them and try to get a deal.

You possible could contact your local Walmart nursery manager and ask him for the source of his purchases. My son in law used to work for such a place in Irvin, California, and it is where Walmart got their plants. Also check your yellow pages, as ours has places for wholesale rates for plants.

Good luck
Reply:It would be best to talk with the manager of your local nursery or gardening center.

Are flowers in order?

My daughter is in a play (musical). She is not the lead person but one on the main characters. I really havent been to many plays and it starts on Dec.1. I am so proud of her. Do the actors sometimes get flowers after the play and if so, what kind/how many. I don't want to embarrass her. Oh, this is a high school play but many people from the community are in it.

Are flowers in order?
i say that whenever you are unsure of whether to do something thoughtful or not-just do it!!...life is short!!....i honestly don't know the proper etiquette for giving flowers to actors, but who cares!...your daughter will be delighted to recieve flowers...as for what kind of flowers, i'd probably just get whatever her favorites are....roses are probably most traditional...and i would probably only give her flowers on opening night, i don't think it's necessary to give flowers at every performance
Reply:Of course give her flowers if she is one of the main characters... opening night PLEASE! (Squeak!) Report It

Reply:Congratulations to your daughter, how exciting! Yes, I would get her flowers. Perhaps a small bouquet nothing over the top.

How about 3 roses with baby's breath? Or perhaps one large sunflower? or a dozen daizy's?
Reply:Absolutely! Make her feel special, like her role is the lead-at least to you.
Reply:It would be a lovely gesture and Im sure she will appreciate it. Just chose a posy of her favourites rather than a huge bunch..;
Reply:Honestly, if your child is in a play no matter what the role, flowers are in order. Quite often the school sells them to make some money, but bringing your own is better--it shows that you thought about it before getting to the play. Get her favorite kind, but nothing run-of-the-mill. My favorite are Gerbera Daisies, but sunflowers or something big and bright will be different than the roses/carnations that everyone else will be getting. Be sure to take lots of pictures, this is a big thing for her!

Oh and you're her parents, while she's in school it's your job to embarass her. If she's embarassed by flowers then that's not right. It's an expression of love. Just don't bring pictures of her tap dance recital when she was 4 to show to all her friends--THAT would be embarassing. She's got all of college to not be embarassed by her parents on a daily basis. lol.
Reply:First of all, I'd like to say that flowers are in order whenever you feel like giving them to her:) I was in a play in high school, and it was standard for families (and even some friends) to bring 3-6 roses to give after the show. Even the members of the chorus got flowers. It's purely a personal decision, though. Pick up a small bouquet of her favorite flowers for her. It's not so much what you get, but the thought. One of my little brothers gave me a wilted dandelion once, and it thrilled me. I'm sure whatever you choose to do for her will make her feel very special.
Reply:Absolutely!!! Get her whatever is her favorite flower. Or maybe a bouquet of pink roses.
Reply:When I was in high school musicals lots of people got flowers. It is a very nice thing to do and will really make her day. I would recommend some roses (maybe 6?) or a bouquet of her favorite flowers, if they are available. You won't embarrass her, she will love having some flowers!!
Reply:I would bring flowers for sure!
Reply:Flowers are in order and greatly appreciated.

You can give them to her before the show for the others to admire a bit too.

If not breaking the budget, a small bunch of roses is appropriate. Or, if you don't have a Sams, Wal-Mart or somewhere to get them a bit cheaper, a mixed bouquet would suffice.

Grats to her on her part and good luck with the musical.
Reply:Every child should get flowers no matter how "big" their role...
Reply:yes ,get her a bundle of her favorite, thats what they do,even in school plays
Reply:You can give her flowers. I played an instrument and after my concerts I would be given flowers.

How do you get seeds from a Begonia flower, in order to reproduce a certain colour plant next year?

I have a certain red and white begonia, which is a one off amidst the usual pinks and purples. I need to know how and when i can pick the seed from that flower so i can produce the red and white version seperately for next year. Any help greatly welcomed!

How do you get seeds from a Begonia flower, in order to reproduce a certain colour plant next year?
I never got seeds from my begonias? I used to lift the corms for the winter and split them and store indoors in a box of soil for replanting in the spring. I thought that was the only way to do it? That way I preserved all my rare and unusual ones.
Reply:You need to cover the flowers so they are not pollinated by bee's or other insects, then you pollinate a female flower with a male flower from the same plant
Reply:Wouldn't it be easier to take cuttings? Especially off a begonia. Also you're cloning then and it should be more true to the parent plant than a seed where dominant alelles get to have their says iirc. Not a bedding plant expert though so I could e wrong ...
Reply:You won't be able to guarantee the colour of the begonia - but to collect the seed, wait until the flower is faded then tie a paper bag over the flower head, I tend to leave them on the plant as long as possible but then cut the stem off %26amp; hang it upside down in a warm dark place.

The seed is very fine - don't be tempted to touch it with your fingers, you will damage it.

I generally try to sow seed immediately outside (usually into pots though), it then takes as long as nature intends for it to germinate.
Reply:With any plant that you can strike cuttings from, it's best to propagate that way if you want to keep the colour true.

Unless you've managed to keep the plant completely isolated from any other of the same variety, the chances of seed coming out the colour you want is slim.
Reply:Seeds? Begonias? I never knew that but Im off to give it a try. I have usually tried cuttings or bulb preservation. I guess you have tried that too.

Are there any restrictions on shipping wine and flowers internationally?

Specifically to New Zealand. And I mean just sticking wine in a box with a couple of flowers. Not ordering through any company like ftd or anything. Thanks!

Are there any restrictions on shipping wine and flowers internationally?
There are laws regarding liquor importation and plant importation. There are duties and taxes etc to consider as well. It's better to use the ftd thing as they get the stuff locally and if imported stuff you want, if it is available there then they can get that (for a price).

Plants can be quarantined and some are banned altogether from importation. So check first prior to doing this. Also some places have to have liquor lic to import, so if personal travel and bring it with you is one thing, if sending is another altogether.

Are there any cheap flowers at nurserys that smell good and look good?

My house has shade, partial sun, and few areas with full sun. My preferance would be shade or partial sun. Full suns are usually more expensive but if you know of any chap good ones that won't spread out to much do to the lack of that much sun, I would love to hear about that. Preannuals are the best but at the right price annuals are okay too. We live in northern New Jersey so the dirt is very fertile and good for growing. I don't want the flowers to sprout everywhere, just some places needing color. The weather up here is very awkward so please consider that. If I can't buy it in a nursury could you send me a website that I can order from, the flowers themselves or seeds. I don't want to wait for more than a month for the first sprout though. I know that these are a lot of requirments and I want to thank you in advance.

Are there any cheap flowers at nurserys that smell good and look good?
I live in the South so I am not sure if Gardenias will thrive in New Jersey. These are beautiful flowers and are so fragrant when blooming. They are probably the most fragrant of all flowers . These are perennials and are not too expensive if you buy small ones--They will grow quickly--there are large types and dwarf types. They love shade to part sun and need water. Knock out roses are also beautiful flowers and the new knock out roses bloom all summer-non stop. Not to sure about the smell of the roses. Some petunias have a very fragrant smell and are so very beautiful-- They do like full sun and they are not too expensive. Many shops like Lowe's will mark down some of their droopy flowers soon and you can get a very good price on these-They will recover with little care and feed them a weak solution of miracle- gro plant food and they will bloom all summer if kept watered when dry. You might also try the new encore azaleas-- They will bloom 2-3 times a season. They make beautiful shrubs for near the house. They like part shade with little sun-- fertilize these with Osmocote --this will last 6-9 months feedings. Good luck--Make the world beautiful where you live!

What grabs your attention when ordering flowers, color, design, what?

Ive ask that question because I am a florist and this shop has experience growth this past year.

We want to stand out in the floral industry. We offer already other free services that other shops dont offer. Such as pictures of their arrangement or gifts sent to their emails , so they can enjoy the gifts as well. This has really made a difference with our customers. Some of our customers have said they stop ordering online because they were recieving products that just wasnt what they ordered.

What grabs your attention when ordering flowers, color, design, what?
My main thing when ordering flowers is the color selection. I like deep, rich colors like pumpkin orange, chocolate brown, blood red, etc. Like fall colors, mostly.
Reply:i look for something more interesting than just flowers. a decorative vase that can be used again. maybe river rocks and twigs that can be saved after the flowers die. beautiful ribbons and bows. oh--and i hate those generic business card size greetings that come on the arangement. people will spend $50 for a nice arangement, and then they cheap out on the card! i wish there were classier choices in this area.

i really enjoy progressive, trendy looks, almost a japanese style, a feeling or emotion should be conveyed through flower arangements.

What are the best websites for ordering plants and flowers?

I have searched for and found several online nursery websites that sell bulbs and perennials but I want to be sure my plants and flowers are healthy when they arrive at my home. Any recommendations or experiences (good or bad) would help me find a nursery that I can trust to deliver the best so I can plant them with confidence in my own garden! - - Anyone??? - -

This is the place I like.

They have a lot of variations that I have not found anywhere else.

They guarantee their products for life (the plants) and always run specials so can getsome excellent flowers (bulbs or growing) for pretty cheap.

good Luck!
Reply:I'm a big fan of the Burpee Seed Company - www. burpee.com.
Reply:It is best to use a nursery that is in your own Gardening Zone, that way you know the plants have adapted to your area, or a zone north of you, making the plants even hardier.

It also makes a difference if your looking for seeds, perrenials, trees etc. most nurseries specialize, ask your local gardening friends who they prefer, also visit your local farmers market or some of the plant exchanges in your area.
Reply:I like burpee.com
Reply:www.ebay.com or www.thegardencorner.com
Reply:Burpee then all the others as required for specialties, and no the y aren't paying me...yet
Reply:I get my seeds from www.reneesgarden.com.....they used to be a part of White Flower Farms which provide the healthiest and best plants from perennials, shrubs, etc. For roses and other things you can always trust Jackson and Perkins....(both White Flower and J%26amp;P are on line). I have never found anyone I trust with bulbs...I do better at a local big nursery. (If I am looking to use big volumes for naturalizing and not using hybrids, try Michigan Bulb Co.) Good luck

Reply:why should you order plants and flowers when the wind and animals plant them if you leave it alone
Reply:Did you KNOW?? Many states give away trees.flowers and plants...you should check into the state you live in or go to www.ask.com and type in "free gardening plants" or ask,"what plants, trees shrubs do are free from (state of virginia) I is always worth asking ..I got 10,000 pine seedlings for free and they even had a chain gang plant them on my mountain for free. This was 5 years ago and now i have a "live xmas tree farm for free" i will sell these and ask for them to do the same...I can make about $150,000 free if all goes well. I LOVE AMERICA..i am IMMIGRANT and had nothing now I own several mountains (also free) for planting grapes ( yes%26lt; free too ) Some muslims are good like me i love AMERICA and LAND OF THE FREE.

Ordering flowers over the internet for a wedding need some help?
I ordered silk flowers off the internet and they came out really great.I used the following sites:

www.thebridesbouquet.com-toss bouquet for bridesmaids

www.budgetmindedbrides.com-bridal bouquet

Good luck and congratulations!!
Reply:I have no qualms about ordering flowers on the internet, but I have to say that for a wedding bouquet you'd really be better talking to a local florist....not only will he or she know what is in season, but also may be able to suggest blooms that you just won't be able to get from internet florists, also what happens if the delivery is late? It may seem like the easiest way to do your flowers, but for such an important day.....go and speak to a real person. Best of Luck!
Reply:I've never actually ordered flowers offline, but I've found a site that seems great.

www.freshroses.com

It lets you know what flowers are available for the month you're getting married in. There's even some packaged deal on the roses.
Reply:I don't usually order flowers from the web but I would say DON'T order flowers from FTD! Their services are horrible, my bf order me flowers for v-day and they were the wrong ones and trying to reach customer service was a pain... if you search for "ftd flowers" in the search bar above there would be a lot of results of people saying that they are horrible and needs to be boycott

I recommend trying to purchase flowers at a local flower shop

Good luck with your wedding!
Reply:1. sorry, no idea about that.
Reply:www.sommerflowers.com

These 3 are the best I've found. My fav is Sommer Flowers.

What is the best way to get rid of a patch of grass on my lawn in order to create a flower bed?

I have quite a large yard that is mostly grass but want to create flower gardens in a few areas. I've read that salt kills grass but will I still have to pull up the dead grass in order to start my garden?? Also, will the salt destroy the soil beneath the grass??? Thanks for your answers. Much appreciated.

What is the best way to get rid of a patch of grass on my lawn in order to create a flower bed?
The answer with the plastic will work,BUT you will have to leave the plastic tarp on the ground and cover it with potting soil or crushed rocks, than poke holes where you want to put your plants .
Reply:Use a utility knife cut the outline and foot strips between, use a shovel to start each strip and grass will roll up pretty easily.
Reply:i cover the area with black plastic, or a dark tarp for a week or two. the grass will die and then you can till it under, or turn it under by digging with a shovel. if you don't kill the grass, or scrape the sod off, you will forever be weeding it out as it will come back up.i used to scrape the sod off and dig the garden out in rows, then place the sod upside down in the garden. the black plastic is much easier.
Reply:U will have to turn the soil to plant a garden. Get a tiller and it will get rid of the grass for u.
Reply:Yes the salt will cause you to have to wait a couple of years before you plant any flowers. The only sane way to get rid of the grass is to dig it up under the root system. This can be done with a shovel in small areas or a front-end loader in larger areas.

You can't kill grass and weeds by covering them with a tarp, they may look dead when you remove the tarp, but they WILL grow back.

How many flowers should Joanna estimate she needs for this wedding?

Joanne works for a florist. She needs to estimate how many flowers to order for 12 wedding bouqeets. She did similiar bouqets for two weddings in the past. For on she used 72 roses for 5 similar bouets and for the other, she made 16 similar bouqets using 243.

The numbers don't quite match, but let's use hte higher ratio to be safe.

243/16 roses per bouquet means 12 bouquets will require

12*243/16 = 183 roses
Reply:Well in the first one she used (72/5) 14.4 roses in each bouquet. in the second wedding she used (243/16) 15.18 roses per bouquet. I would average the 2 previous weddings together (14.4+15.18)/2 to get 14.79 roses.

12 wedding bouquets at 14.79 roses (12x14.79)=177.48,178 roses.
Reply:(243-72)/(16-5) = 15.5

y = 15,5x +b

72= 15.5(5) +B --%26gt; b = -5.5

y = 15.5x- 5.5

y(12) = 15.5*12 -7.5 = 181
